MinneHonk!

Taking inspiration from the Honk! Festivals activist street bands that take place throughout the world, elements of the activist street band, Brass Solidarity, is looking to bring a miniature version of the festival to Minneapolis! On May 3rd there will be music happening at the George Floyd Square area from approximately 1pm to 5pm. On May 4th, at Powderhorn Park, there will be music coinciding with the MayDay Parade and Ceremony proceedings, this unamplified brass band and music festival will uplift and help prepare for the Rise and Remember festivities that take place later in May.

Working within a framework of a plurality of festivals occurring simultaneously, the goal of this festival is to strengthen the community and cultural fabric in a grassroots oriented manner that encourages people to get out and share music, conversations, and time in community. This is being made possible through funding from Minnesota Humanities Center, Folk Will Save Us, Rise and Remember, and community based efforts to organize.
